It’s hard for me to believe that I’ve been doing this mom thing for nearly seven years. Some moments, it feels like the journey began yesterday and sometimes I can barely remember what it was like to not be a mom! As a new mom, one of my top priorities was figuring out how I’d teach my children about God. I wanted to inspire my children to have a love for Jesus that’s uniquely their own. Some of our household habits include reading scripture, worshiping together [each in our own way], and prayer time at meals as well as a prayer box where we write down requests. I’m continuously delighted as my oldest will say, “mom, I prayed for that to happen!” or my four year old will offer to pray for someone who doesn’t feel well. Each little moment is a sweet reminder that we’re slowly traveling down the right path!
A huge part of inspiring faith in little learners comes from children’s bible. As wonderful as they are, they can get a bit redundant after reading David and Goliath for the 100th time! So when I heard that Zondervan was releasing a new children’s bible, I was incredibly excited to check it out and have a break from reading that one we’ve been “enjoying” for four years straight! The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible brings to life more than 40 Bible stories that help readers understand that God’s Spirit has been with us since the beginning of time and continues to be with us today. From the glory of creation through the powerful letters of Paul, God’s Spirit is living in his people. Old and New Testament stories such as Adam and Eve, Abraham, Joseph, the Baptism of Jesus, and Pentecost come alive with dramatic illustrations by Fernando Juarez and moving text by Doris Rikkers. With a cover that sparkles and shines with foil, this is a special storybook Bible that will appeal to both children and parents alike.
I've been loving this children's bible ,and so have my kids! If you're tired of the same old kids stories, this children's Bible takes on a Holy Spirit filled focus to illuminate how God's Spirit was working throughout Scripture! For example, instead of just reading about how Daniel interpreted King Nebuchadnezzar's dreams, the text focuses on how the Spirit helped Daniel understand the King's dreams and ties it back to the story verse of Job 32:8, "But it is the Spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty that gives them understanding..."
I love this book because it's an invitation for our children to search for where the Holy Spirit is working in their own lives, and it also teaches them that biblical people were ordinary humans like us, who submitted to God and His Holy Spirit to walk into the miraculous! This Bible has sparked many different discussions [and plenty of questions I was unprepared for] but it's inspiring a "fresh wind" of spirit movement in our house!
